ELEVATED YOUR HOLIDAYS: CANNABIS SMOKING TIPS FOR A POST-COVID CELEBRATION

As we emerge from the challenges of the past few years, having a weed-friendly holiday takes on new significance.

For many, this season offers a chance to reconnect, celebrate, and find joy.

It’s the darkest time of year, and the news cycle is especially dark, so we may especially crave gathering in-person and bringing some light.

If you're considering incorporating cannabis into your holiday festivities, whether for relaxation, connection, or simply to enhance the experience, here are some tips to ensure you host a lovely stoner-celebration that’s inclusive, trauma-informed, and most important… FUN!

Choose The Strain:

Start by selecting a cannabis strain that complements the mood you want to create. Whether you're aiming for a relaxed evening or an energetic social gathering, the right strain can set the tone for a positive experience.

If you’re showing up to the party, don’t feel the need to consume the same strain of weed as the people you’re hanging with. Feel free to bring your own istead, and you can explain why or you don’t have to.

We all have our different relationships to the herb, and each strain will have its own terpene profile and effect on the body. I may need help with anxiety, while you may need help with lethargy, so different strains would make sense. If you’re hosting the gathering, have few strains available, if possible, with the terpenes and cannabinoid percentages noted if that’s available.

Mindful Dosage:

Especially if you're in a social setting, be mindful of your cannabis dosage. Especially if the holidays bring up big emotions for you, or you’re celebrating with people you’re ambivalent about.

Maybe you stick to CBD or a low-dose edible when your nasty aunt comes for family dinner, and save the high-potency dabs for the Secret Santa exchange you do with your closer friends.

In any case, don’t harsh people’s buzz by commenting on how they smoke so much more or less than you. Our tolerance and intentions differ, don’t get on Santa’s “Naughty” list by judging others.

Decide About Sharing:

Perhaps you honor the covid (and the cold and flu season we’re in), and decide to have pre-rolls for everyone, so they don’t have to pass joints and share germs.

Perhaps you invite everyone to bring their own.

Maybe you use edibles to avoid sharing. Or maybe you get some alcohol swabs to clean your pipe or dab rig after each person, or use a “smoke stone” so your lips never touch the joint being passed.

Or if your group is small and comfortable enough to pass joints, don’t feel offended if some people would rather not share. Exposing ourselves to covid is a deeply-personal choice, so be sure to accept everyone’s comfort level and do what’s right for you. Personally, I bring my Smoke Stone if it’s going to be a party with lots of people. Or, I just roll myself a couple thin joints and don’t pass them, without explanation. It feels good to take care of ourselves!

Create A Comfortable Environment:

Designate a cozy space for your cannabis experience, whether it's indoors with festive decorations and some cannabis-infused eggnog, or outdoors celebrating the New Year under the stars.

Keep water and protein-rich snacks nearby to stay hydrated and curb potential munchies. Ensuring a comfortable environment, with plenty of water and protein-rich snacks, is vital to a stoney-holiday celebration.

Consider Edibles For A Gradual High:

Edibles can be an excellent option for a gradual and sustained high. If you're sharing your edibles, be sure to communicate dosage clearly, and remember to be patient as effects may take longer to kick in compared to smoking.

Always label what foods on the table are “enhanced” and keep these far out of reach of children and pets.

Respect Boundaries:

Not everyone may want to partake in cannabis, so it's essential to respect the boundaries and preferences of those around you. Create an open and non-judgmental space for everyone to feel comfortable. Maybe have non-psychoactive CBD tinctures and topicals so people can still enjoy the health benefits of cannabis without getting high, or 5mg gummies so they can explore a microdose of THC.

Plan For Safe Transportation:

If your celebration involves traveling, plan for safe transportation in advance. Designate a sober driver or schedule a ride for people, to ensure everyone gets home safely.

Conclusion: High Holidays

The holidays present a wonderful opportunity to unwind and connect with loved ones, and integrating cannabis into your celebration can enhance the experience.

By choosing the right strain, being mindful of dosage, labeling edibles, and creating a comfortable environment with water and snacks, you can elevate your holiday festivities responsibly, and usher in a season of joy, connection, inclusion, and much-needed light.

Happy holidays! May the weeks ahead bring you much goodness! We’ll be taking some time off the blog, and will be back in the New Year!
